Sanctuary for Healing Arts, Hopewell Junction, NY 12533, USA
About the event
Have you ever thought of writing about yourself and shudder? You think of yourself as selfish, and you feel like there are so many beautiful stories in the world to be made. What makes your story so special?
Spoiler alert: It is yours. And there is so much you can do with it.
In this workshop, held here at the Sanctuary, we will explore a dark part of your memory using characters like demons and monsters. A memory where you can transform into the damsel saving herself, or the knight putting down the sword and freeing himself from violent servitude. Or you can transform someone who hurt you in your life into someone worth forgiving. (A talking bear or dancing cat?) It sounds silly, but writing is such an important skill for everyone. It allows you control to shift your life, your narrative, your story. No matter what is happening outside, anything can be real in your imaginative world. The worlds are there for you to make. And there is nothing wrong with writing about yourself!
In theme with Halloween, we are going to create short stories or narratives where we can lay to rest a part of your life that you wish you could forget - but we all know this shadow work is integral to moving on. It does not have to be a scary story, it can be whatever fantastical, futuristic, or spiritual realm you desire to set the stage in, and it can end however YOU want. The point being that you can reframe the past - with a positive ending. In doing so you just may even change your future, shifting your triggers, to become less reactive and find peace.
